Di Docia Sugar Bowl
This sugar bowl is part of an eleven piece Di Docia tea set, presented presented to Maeve Hillery by Livia Andreotti, wife of seven times Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti, during the State Visit to Italy in October 1989.
In November 2002 Giulio Andreotti was convicted of ordering the 1979 murder of a Mino Pecorelli, a journalist who has exposed Andreotti’s links to the Mafia. The conviction was later overturned but accusations of Andreotti’s Mafia connection remained.
