Ronald Reagan Paper Weight

This paper weight containing the image of the American seal, was presented to His Excellency, the President of Ireland, Dr Patrick Hillery, by US President Ronald Reagan on the occasion of his State Visit to Ireland, in June 1984.

Ronald Reagan first made a name for himself in Hollywood as an actor, making 53 films. His interest in politics sprang from his period as President of the Screen Actors Guild, and served as Governor of California from 1966-1975. He served two terms as President of the United States, from 1981-1989, surviving an assassination attempt.

The paper weight was presented to Dr Hillery at a luncheon in honour of the Irish President, at Deerfield, the official residence of the US Ambassador to Ireland.
