An exhibition on Clare man Dr. Brendan O’Regan, the man whose vision is responsible for Shannon Airport Duty Free, Bunratty Castle and the Irish Coffee was the focus of this years winter exhibition at Clare Museum which ran from early February until the end of April.
Entitled “Empowering the people”, the display was opened by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern TD and was attended by Dr. O’Regan and a large number of his former colleagues. The exhibition featured objects, photographs and documents relating to Dr. O’Regan, including his Freedom of Limerick parchment and a CBE awarded to him by Queen Elizabeth II for his role in establishing Co-operation North (now Co-operation Ireland).
The exhibition has now moved on to Shannon branch library where it will on display for the summer but an electronic version of the text panels from the exhibition, which include many photographs of Shannon in the early days, are on permanent display on the Clare Museum website. This cyber version joins the text panels from previous exhibitions on Dr. Patrick Hillery’s presidency and the Clare Embroidery School in the Projects section of the Museum website.
