Clare Champion, Friday, January 23, 2004
While on holiday in Doolin during the summer of 2000, archaeologist Shane Delaney recovered 14 items dating back to Stone Age times.
The items recovered included stone axes, flint flakes and hammerstones. One of the artifacts, a polished greenstone axe, had never been found in Clare before. The artifacts all date from the Neolithic period (or New Stone Age), and were made between 4,000 - 2,400 BC when people first began farming in Ireland.
Mr Delaney donated his find to Clare Museum (Arthur’s
Row, Ennis) and the collection is currently on exhibition until mid-February.
