The Clare Museum has experienced a 12% rise in visitors for the first six months of the year. There were a total 13,300 visitors to the museum up to the end of June, which was an increase on the 11,900 visitors during the first six months of last year.

Museum Curator John Rattigan believes there are a number of factors responsible for the visitor boom at the museum. ‘The Gathering and the new coach parking facilities beside the museum are certainly major factors’, said Mr Rattigan. ‘However, we know from comments in the visitors book and on Tripadvisor that the quality of the Riches of Clare exhibition and free admission are also significant attractions’.

While museum activities, such as a winter lecture series on Saturday afternoons, helped to increase the profile of the museum and attracted a new local audience, the majority of international visitors to the museum are from Germany, France, USA and Canada and have been very visible at the museum since early April.
