Chalcopyrite

Mineral

This is on of the ores of copper, once mined in East Clare

Chalcopyrite (or copper pyrite) looks like, and is easily confused with pyrite. It is one of the minerals referred to as 'Fool's Gold' because of its bright golden colour. It tarnishes to iridescent blues, greens, yellows and purples, and has a lustre that is metallic.
