Earth: The Riches of Clare

Perforated Mace Head

This example comes from Raheen, Tuamgraney, County Clare, and dates from the Mesolithic. The earliest evidence of humans living in Ireland comes to us from Mount Sandel, Co Derry. Here archaeologists found postholes from huts, built by Mesolithic people, and also evidence of the food they hunted and gathered including animal bones of hare, wild boar, birds, fish and burnt hazel nut shells. As of yet, there has been no similar Mesolithic site found in Clare.
