Daniel O’Connell’s Coat

This coat was presented to Michael Considine of Ennis by Daniel O’Connell in recognition of his activities in support of O’Connell’s political campaigns. The coat was passed down through the Considine family and was photographed for the Clare Champion in 1935.

The bronze harp on the front of the coat was given to Michael O. Considine on a later date by supporters in New York when he visited that city to raise funds for the O’Connell Monument in Ennis.

The photograph pre-dates cleaning and conservation of the coat that took place in 2009.
