| 1850 | Nov | 18 | Business | Clare Journal | on 1st January 1851. In announcing to our Subscribers and the Public at large, the intention of the Proprietor of this Journal to publish it in an enlarged form from the 1st January 1851, we willingly embrace the opportunity to express at the same time, our gratitude for the support which it has hitherto received. The "Clare Journal has now been in existence during the greater part of an entire century, and has ever proved itself the uncompromising advocate of civil and religious liberty, and ardently devoted - as was its especial duty - to the interests of this part of the UK. And though we reserve for a future number a more full and explicit exposition of our ---, we may yet observe at present, that it is our determination to adhere to the same principles which have heretofore marked our course, and which have secured to us the approbation and support of a liberal and enlightened public. A large supply of new type and a new and superior press of a large size, and of Irish manufacture, have been already received; and nothing now remains but some slight preliminary arrangements to enable us (D.V.) to present this Journal to our readers, at the beginning of the New Year, containing 24 columns of new and closely-printed type, and conducted, we venture to say, in a manner which will justly entitle it to rank amongst the first Provincial Journals in Ireland. | ||

The vessel remains under seizure. The parties, in default of payment, were escorted to Ennis Jail by a party of the Coast Guard. The vessel is the property of Messrs McNamara and Shaw, of this town, who were entirely ignorant of this practice and impropriety of the Master of the vessel. We hope that the well known integrity of our respected fellow townsmen will induce the government to release the vessel. A Memorial in their behalf has been forwarded to the Board of Customs, signed by a great number of the magistrates and merchants of the City of Limerick. |

In consequence of the rapid rise in the price of all kinds of provisions in this town, particularly meal, the principal sustenance of the Poor at present, and which they chiefly attribute to the great quantities sent out of the country, a large mob on Tuesday night broke open two stores in the suburbs of this town, in which were contained a large quantity of Barley and Oaten Meal, intended to be sent away, and in a short time entirely emptied them of what they contained. Yestersday they went to the Mills of Ennis .... they quietly dispersed without there being any necessity for calling out the military | ||
