Existing Transcriptions
Do you have, or know of, existing transcribed data, either privately held, published or online? Contact us and let us know, regardless of format or area covered.

New Transcriptions
In order to facilitate the management of the Project, the parishes of County Clare have been divided into ‘Lots’ of roughly 10 townlands each. These Lots are shown in the List of Parishes and their Townlands. Volunteers can use this information to help them select a particular area to transcribe.

When the volunteer has picked a Lot, they should check its status, i.e. whether or not it needs to be transcribed, by clicking on the Status of Parishes list. Is there a particular Lot you are interested in transcribing? If yes, email us with the title of Lot, e.g. ‘19 Kilcorney B’.

If you are not interested in any particular Lot, the Library will assign one to you.

Do you have access to copies of the Clare Tithe Applotment Books? Volunteers who don’t have access will have copies mailed to them. Please email us your full postal address.
When you have obtained a copy of the TAB you intend to transcribe, check the Guidelines for Transcribing.

Volunteers may request up to 3 lots at a time.
Completed transcriptions must be emailed to the Library for checking and uploading. The Library will act as editor and decide on the final form of the transcriptions.

Data will be uploaded when library decides. As library staff have many calls on their time, we cannot guarantee a publication date for data.
