[15] Medical Report.
We have had a great increase of fever during the week having had 65 cases occuring
mostly amongst those in probationary ward, and the late admissions, it is generally of a
mild type and we had no death from it since the beginning of the month, not withstanding
the very crowded state of the hospital, to relieve which something should be done by the
vice guardians either by sending the patients to the temporary fever hospital of the union
or the Ennis Fever Hospital. There are 114 at present in fever.
We have 64 in infirmary and had four deaths amongst the children from diarrhea.

Master's Report.
Resolved that the clerk has directed to inform the Commissioner that in consequence
of the relieving officers of the Corofin and Burren divisions not having their
application and report books properly arranged the workhouse registry was not
authenticated.
Resolved that the clerk do inquire from the commissioners whether they can afford
any or what redress to Mr. Neptune Blood of Roxton under the following circumstances, Mr.
B. was rated for a certain portion of land some time ago in his possession. Subsequently,
he let a part of it to a tenant who had been properly rated for the quantity of land given
over to him, but by an oversight of the valuation, Mr. B. has been rated the full amount
as if he still held all the land in his own possession -can the vice guardian reduce
proportionally Mr. Blood's valuation?
The master requires the following articles for the use of the Moymore Temporary Fever
Hospital. [18] Two tables, one pot hook, and hand hooks, a milk tub to
contain 30 qts, callender, five candlesticks, four chairs, 12 chamber pots, lines for
drying clothes.
Also, for the workhouse as follows;-
100 suits of mens clothing, l00 pairs of shoes (mens), 500 yds of material for
handkerchiefs for women, l00 pairs of womens' shoes, rail door for mens wards, 6 lamps for
dining hall, 24 metal saucepans, two tables for masters' and matrons' rooms, two pairs of
candlesticks, and snuffers, thread and 2 dozen shovels.
Ordered that the above be procured and that the clerk do write tenders for the
clothing, shoes, etc., etc.,
The medical officers have reported that a supply of medicine was required for the
house,Ordered that it be procured from the contractor Boilean and Ussher, Dublin.
Resolved that the clerk be directed to submit the enclosed copy of a dietary for the
officers and the paupers of the union, to the Commissioners for their approval it having
been alReady approved by the medical officer of the house, the vice guardians having found
that the dietary in use at present in the workhouse was too much and beg to state that by
this change a great saving will be effected in favour of the union.
[19] The vice guardians having taken into consideration the report of
Dr. Shannon direct that the master do procure horses and cars and transmit to the fever
hospital at Ennis such cases of fever as may occur in the workhouse during the ensuing
days and until vacancies offer for reception of the patients into the Moymore Temporary
Fever Hospital and that the clerk do communicate with Dr. Finucane the medical attendant
at Moymore the directions of the vice guardians that he will for the present reserve all
vacancies occurring at Moymore for the inmates of the union and auxiliary house and that
the relieving officers shall, until orders, send the several new cases of fever to the
Ennis Fever Hospital.

[25] Medical Report:
There are 132 fever patients under medical treatment all, (with the exception of
about six) of a very mild form, to the accommodation of which number, I had to appropriate
a portion of the infirmary, our fever hospital containing only 30 beds. We had 71 new
cases since this day week, and trust that a favourable change is beginning to set in as
the number of the cases occurring for the last few days have diminished, 65 sick in
infirmary and infirm wards. Deaths, one from fever, one from dysentry, one from small pox
and 5 from diarrhea.
