The letters of the poor law Commissioners and others were read and orders
given thereon.

appointed poor rate collector.
- 10th. October 1849, enclosing amended forms of contracts and bonds.
- 10th. October 1849, intimating that the advances would be ascertained to the respective

- 15th. October 1849, returning leaf of the minutes for the correction.
[7] - 15th. October 1849. About payment of £2.2.0 to Dr. Finnucane for

Resolved
- that the Commissioners be informed in reply to their communication of this date that
Dr. Finucane was directed by the clerk on the authority of Captain Kennedy to inspect the
several girls selected by Lieut. Henry from Ennistymon, that those girls were at this time
dispersed in the several auxiliary houses of Ballykeale, Sandfield and Miltown Malbay,
that Dr. Finucane proceeded to the several auxiliary houses to make his inspection before
the vice guardians had received any intimation of Captain Kennedy's directions - that had
Captain Kennedy conferred with the vice guardians they would have directed the better
arrangement of ordering in the girls from the several auxiliary work houses - but as Dr.
Finucane (acting on the message he received) had travelled 7 miles to part of the
auxiliary houses and having furnished a bill for 3 guineas to the vice guardians as
compensation for his extra time, expenses, and labour, the vice guardians deemed that he
was entitled to be paid the sum of £2.2.0 as ordered for him on the minutes of the
board's proceedings.
- 15th. October 1849, about employing the master of the Sandfield Auxiliary Workhouse in

vice guardians to bring up the arrears in the relief list which had not been entered up
from the 25th. March last but he left the union in a day or two after his arrival and,
before he had done anything towards bringing up the arrears, the vice guardians were
obliged therefore to transfer the services of Mr. Lysaght, assistant master at Sandfield
to assist in the master's office at the relief list without any additional remuneration
beyond his salary as assistant master - Mr. Lysaght has since been appointed assistant
schoolmaster at the Miltown Malbay Auxiliary Workhouse, but will not enter on his duties
until the relief list is completed.
- 15th October 1849, queries to be answered by Mr. John Hanlon and Mr. Mulqueeney,
lately appointed relieving officers.
- 15th October 1849, queries to be answered by Mr. Lysaght, appointed assistant
schoolmaster at Miltown Auxilary Workhouse.
- 16th October 1849, enclosing copy of a communication from Messrs. Bannatyne & Son
about the debt due them, with the Commissioners' reply thereto.
- 16th October 1849, about an error in the case of Mary Jourdan having received relief for
a longer period than was sanctioned by the vice guardians.
The vice guardians having taken into consideration the appointment of a matron for the
Lahinch Auxiliary Workhouse in the stead of Mrs. Griffin who had been removed to Sandfield
Auxiliary,
Resolved that Mrs. Margaret Edwards be taken on trial for two weeks and if, at the
expiration of that time, the vice guardians find her competent to discharge the duties,
that she be returned as matron salary £15 per annum with the usual rations and an
apartment.
