Letters of the commissioners and others were read.The board proceeded to consider tenders for the supply of soap for the whole union up
to the 29th September 1850. It was resolved that the tender of Anne Donnollan be accepted
for best Irish soap as per sample at 1.9.0 per cwt.
The clerk submitted an estimate as follows to the board, for the maintenance of paupers in
this workhouse from Corofin Union which was adopted by them.

Letters of the commissioners and others were read.Resolved that upon no occasion shall a cheque be signed unless funds are in the the
hands of the treasurer.
Resolved that the clerk do advertise for the sale of fruit at Ballykeale garden.
The clerk intimated to the board that the contract of Messrs J. Bannatyne and Son for
outdoor relief would expire on the 25th inst.
The board directs that the clerk do advertise, inviting tenders from persons desirous to
contract for the necessary supplies for 2 months from the expiration of the present
contract.
The clerk submitted the following estimates to the board which were adopted.

Medical Report.Remaining under treatment on the above date, 167 in infirmary and 38 in fever hospital.
Admitted during the week 45 to infirmary of which number 5 were afflicted with dysentry,
10 with diarrhea and 11 with measles.
Admitted to fever hospital 7, deaths during the week 13, 4 from fever, 5 measles, 2
dysentry and 2 diarrhea.
Remaining in Lahinch Infirmary at the above date 45. 1 child died there of diarrhea and 3
infants died at Sandfield of measles terminating in bowel affections.
In the Miltown Infirmary under treatment on the 15th 42, 3 deaths from chronic dysentry.
Master's Report.
The milk supplied on the 19th inst. curled [sic] when boiled.
Ordered that the clerk do advertise inviting tenders for skimmed milk, tenders to
be received on the 5th July and to continue in force to 29th Sept '50.
The master also complained of the very inferior quality of bread supplied by the
contractor (no order made). He also brought under the notice of the board the overcrowded
state of the burial ground (no order made).

Letters of the Commissioners were read.
10th June '50, with copy of a letter addressed by the commissioners to auditors about the
mode of keeping the accts. after the division of union.
- 10th June '50, with copy of a letter addressed to the guardians of Ennis and Kilrush
Unions calling attention to the adjustment order - authorising a transfer of funds.
- 13th. June '50, authorising a transfer of funds to the unions of Gort, Corofin and
Ballyvaughan in accordance with the adjustment order.
- about the process served by Mr. Guthrie for services performed as secretary of the
Ennistymon Sanatery [sic] Committee.
Ordered that the clerk do write to Mr. Callinan, solicitor, directing him to defend the
process at the
next sessions.
[7] The clerk read letter from Mr. John Burton dated 19th inst.
intimating that notices of trial in the case of Daly & guardians and Jourdan &
guardians had been served for the ensuing assizes of Ennis.ordered that the clerk do write
to Mr. Burton and request of him to defend the above cases.
The following orders were made by the board.

Indian meal to 31st August in the Limerick Examiner, Clare Journal and Limerick Chronicle.

hospital 49. Admissions during the week 48, of which number 20 were afflicted with fever,
3 with dysentry, 11 with diarrhea and 8 measles.
Died during the week 11, 1 of fever, 5 of dysentry, 4 of measles and 1 diarrhea.
Remaining under medical treatment at Lahinch Infirmary 41. 6 children died at Sandfield
Auxiliary of measles anddiarrhea. Admitted to Miltown Infirmary since last report 12,
discharged 23, died 1 of dysentry.

[5] Medical Report
Remaining in infirmary 154, in fever hospital 55. New admissions 46, of which number
22 had fever, 6 diarrhea and 11 measles. Deaths during the week 14, 5 of fever, 2 of
dysentry, 3 diarrhea, 1 measles, 1 small pox and 2 of asthma. Remaining under treatment at
Lahinch Auxiliary 52, 1 died at Lahinch of diarrhea, and 5 infants at Sandfield.

The clerk reported to the board that he has been summoned to attend at the assizes in
Ennis on the 1st inst., to give evidence in the cases of Daly & the guardians, for a
debt of 26-4-9 and Jourdan & same, for 40 pounds, the court in both instances gave
judgement against the guardians with costs.
The clerk further reported to the board that he had been served this day with a writ for
21-1-9 for services performed by James Campbell, solicitor, Dublin
Ordered that the writ be forwarded by the clerk to Mr Cullinan together with Mr
Campbells bill of costs to have it taxed with a view to its immediate payment.

Read sealed order dated 28th June 50, amending the present form of rate books and collecting books.
Letters of the commissioners and others were read.
24th June 1850, intimating that the notice of election for Kilfenora and Cloghain
Electoral Division would be forwarded.
The returning officer stated that he had received the notices and had forwarded them to
the Constabal [sic] to be posted.
- 29th July 1850, requiring a return of expenses in this union and proportion chargeable
to Corofin and Ballyvaughan.
Ordered that the required information be forwarded.
- 29th June 1850, copy of a circular addressed to the clerks of the Corofin and
Ballyvaughan Unions about expenses and debts.
- 1st July 1850, requiring information about current rates and new rates if agreed upon.
The clerk stated he had forwarded the necessaryinformation.
[7] - 1st July 1850, about workhouse policies expiring on the 24th ult.
The clerk states that the policies were received on the 24th ult.
- 1st July 1850, enclosing sealed order amending form of rate and collecting books.
-3 rd July 1850, about debts due by the unions of Ballyvaughan and Corofin to this union.
- 3rd July 1850, about instalments due on loan for workhouses no 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
- 24th June 1850, returning the returning officers' account of election expenses for
correction.
- 28th June 1850, intimating that notice had been served on Mr. Comerford for the
surrender of Ballykeale House on the 15th inst.
- 4th July 1850, about a sum of 54 advanced under the temporary relief advances, and
appointed in the ledger to the electoral divisions, being the amount for the union at
large.
Ordered that the clerk do reply to this letter.
The board proceeded to consider tenders for the supply of Indian meal for out door relief purposes as follows:
[8] Mr M. McNamara, best yellow Indian meal to be delivered free of
carraige at 8-9-0 per ton. Messrs J. Russell and Sons, Indian meal at 7-18-5 per ton.
Messrs J. Bannatyne and Son, best Indian meal at 7-17-6 per ton.
It was resolved that the tender of Messrs Bannatyne and Son be accepted on the above terms
and to continue in force until 31st August inclusive.
Tenders for skimmed milk were received, but were subsequently rejected by the board.
Ordered that the porter, Michael Keane, be transferred from the Farmyard House to the
auxiliary workhouse at Miltown, at a salary of 6 per annum and the usual porter's rations.
Mr J. Stack gave notice of motion that he would, on this day fortnight, move the board
that the poundage on the rate to be collected under the new warrants be reduced and the
present districts limited.
