Parish of Oughtmama (d) |
The only Castle that (according to the natives) ever stood in this Parish was at the Village of Turlagh, called in Irish Turlachan na gCoileán. It is mentioned in the List of O’Loughlin Burren’s Castles preserved in a Manuscript in the Library of Trinity College, already more than once referred to, but now nearly level with the ground. Gortaclare in this Parish is a part of the Liaha, a district which a
branch of
the O’Kanes obtained from the Abbot of Corcumroe Abbey in the 14th century,
and a small lough situated on it is still called Loughaun na Liaha. |
