Description of feature:
This, the largest standing stone in the Barony at 1.70 metres high, occurs
on the top of Walton Hill (183.8’ O.D.) and has a view over a
wide area. Below to the north-west, and clearly visible from it, is
Cloonmunnia Stonefort B (Kilmurry Civil Parish).
The stone has four sides which are 35 – 40 cm wide each. Its edges show signs of cattle using it as a scratching post. This of course is a problem one faces with all such features. Were they erected in comparatively recent times as scratching posts or are they of archaeological value? Field examination cannot really tell one.
