Tower Houses with Bawns -  Monuments of County Clare

Between the 15th and 17th centuries fortified residences, called tower houses, were built in favour of the more defensive castles. Some of these tower houses were enclosed within fortified enclosures called bawns. There are seven such tower houses with bawns surviving in County Clare.
