Donated Material: Births/Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths

Complete Marriage Records for RC Parish of Scariff and Moynoe, 1852 - 1881
Transcriber’s Notes

1.) Best practice requires researcher to review original images on film when using as source data.
2.) There are two marriage register books. Format of each book was slightly different:

Marriage book 1, (1852 – 1872) – format:

Date Grooms

Marriage book 2, (1872 – 1881) – format:

3.) In some cases additional information is found in either register book. Sometimes a baptism was recorded in error and may have been struck out. Some other details were found and in all cases, these are annotated immediately below the applicable record.
4.) When nothing was written in name field, transcriber has entered “no entry.” When nothing was found in place-name field, transcriber left field blank.
5.) None of the Priest’s entries for O’ names included any apostrophes, so transcriber omitted as well. For example, O’Brien is found and entered in transcription as Obrien.
6.) When part of name or place-name could not be read, transcriber entered an underscore, for example Gr______
7.) An underscore in day field indicates one or both digits were unable to be read.
8.) When hard brackets [ ] are found in transcription or in these notes, the hard brackets contain the transcriber’s entry of assumed actual or usual name / place-name.
9.) In the ALL SPOUSES SURNAMES FOUND table, variants found in registers are entered with dashes; for example four variants found in registers for McNamara are entered in tables as “McNamara-MacNamara-Mac-Mack.” Surnames in this table are in rough alphabetical order after ignoring Mac, Mc, and O’. The number in parenthesis is the number of entries of spouses surnames found. The second table is the RANKINGS OF SPOUSES SURNAMES with the most frequently found placed first.
10.) Given names were entered by transcriber as found in registers except that superscripted ending parts of names were not superscripted in transcription. See table below for abbreviations and nicknames found in the marriage registers.
