Church of Ireland Marriages, Baptisms and Burials for Limerick

Some Church of Ireland Marriages
Limerick 1741 – 1852

NOTE: During Penal times, when the Catholic church was banned in Ireland, Catholics were required to be married and baptized in the Church of Ireland, the Established Church. Most Catholics did so, and then sought out a Catholic priest and did the job again – properly!

Some Church of Ireland Burials
Limerick 1710 - 1895

NOTE: Many Catholics were buried in Church of Ireland graveyards and this practice continues down to the present day. We must remember that the Protestant churches and their graveyards belonged to Catholics before the reformation and, as burial sites have always been sacred, Catholics saw no reason to discontinue using their sacred burial grounds. In the following records, the burial ground is listed under the date.
