Applotment Books – 1820s
The Tithe Applotment books were compiled
by the Church of Ireland on a parish by parish basis. Tithe assessors
went around each parish calculating the value of all landholdings and
property. Everyone who occupied (owned or rented) land or property had
to pay tithes to the Church of Ireland, and the Catholics did not like
it one little bit.
