Templenadeirka Graveyard, Tubber

Teampall na Déirce graveyard is 10 yards southeast of the Tubber-Ruan road (GPS coordinates N52.97475, W008.91127; Irish OS map square R 91908 38833) in the townland of Shanballysallagh, Kilkeedy Parish. The 1915 OS map (above) shows the graveyard with the ruins of the church at its north end. The gravestones face the east ("...that they may face the rising sun....").There is no official register of graves and burials have not been systematically recorded. Clare County Council is not administratively responsible for the graveyard. Until recently access to the graveyard was over a field but a small car park is now being built so as to allow easier access for hearses and corpses.

No other inscription is visible and it is not clear to whom this monument was dedicated. One almost wonders whether Patrick McGrath died before completing the dedication.

McInerney         49 McInerney Tomb     No inscription so unclear which members of the family were buried here. This tomb just inside the cemetery gate bears no inscription but is said to be that of the McInerney family which lived in Blakemount House just across the road from the cemetery.
