Clare County Council in association with its partners have developed a Heritage Plan for the County. It is the first time that such a plan has been formulated. It signals a new approach in the management of our heritage, to look at the heritage needs within the county and draw up a work plan to address these needs on a local basis.

The Heritage plan is an opportunity to identify issues and needs at a local level and address them locally, as well as within a national framework. The aim is to secure benefits for heritage and ensure that the most informed decisions possible are made for the future of our shared Heritage.

In County Clare we have a huge heritage resource which local communities among others have fostered and developed over many years. Heritage in its broadest sense reflects the identity of the community living within an area and gives local distinctiveness . It is also a measure of quality of life and provides a measure of sustainability.

Co-operation among all the players and sectors will maximise the benefits and ensure an integrated approach. The plan can provide for a focus of the collective energies to ultimately increase the awareness, protection and management of our shared Heritage.
