The Pilot Monument Advisor programme commenced in June 2004 with the appointment of Michael Lynch as part-time Monument Advisor. The aim of the programme is to advise landowners and occupiers on how to identify and manage the monuments on their property, thereby raising the awareness of the vast archaeological resource in Co. Clare.

A pilot area stretching from the west coast, south of Lehinch, eastwards to Rath and Dysert O’Dea has been chosen to commence the programme. The different landscapes covered by this area include coastal areas with significant development, rural pasture areas with limited archaeological monuments and an archaeological landscape with some well known National Monuments. All the known and recorded sites in the pilot area will be visited during the coming months with information and advice being given to the landowners. Any landowner outside this area that requires immediate information on monuments or potential sites on their property should contact the Monument Adviser, Michael Lynch.
