Common frog
Rana temporaria
The frog is quite common, but showing some signs of decline recently.
Habitat: Wetlands, peatlands and hedgerows. Ponds
for breeding.
What could or does threaten the population: Female
frogs follow traditional migration routes year after year to spawning
ponds and therefore can be killed crossing roads. Drainage and peat
cutting causes destruction of suitable habitat. Another threat is
UV radiation due to the hole in the ozone layer.

|
The ozone layer
filters out harmful UV radiation coming from the sun, the hole in
the ozone layer is allowing harmful radiation through. |
