Echinoderms are the only group of animal
found in the marine environment with no representation
on land or in freshwater.
Starfish Asterias rubens
Starfish are common species in Clare. Starfish feed on molluscs,
such as Mussels. They use the suckers on the underside of their
legs to open the molluscs shells.
Habitat: Marine, rock pools and the sea bed.
What could or does threaten the population: Marine
pollution.
