The Abbey of Inisgad (Canons' Island)


The substantial Abbey on Inisgad (Canons’ Island) in the river Fergus was established at the end of the 12th century for Canons Regular of the Rule of St Augustine. In this article Michael Mac Mahon explores the setting up of Canons Regular foundations in Ireland and in Clare and discusses at the history if Inisgad and its abbey.
