Townswomen, about 1575 but based by Lucas de Heere on an early sixteenth-century illustration. Both women wear fitted wool gowns with laced bodices, their skirts being raised to display 'petticoats'. The married woman (far left) has fitted sleeves with winged cuffs, jewellery and linen under her hat. The maiden has hanging sleeves over her full, smock sleeves and a simple fillet on her head. |
