Location and Brief Description:
Located three miles from Ennis on main Ennis Limerick Road, Clare Castle was the shipping port for Ennis and mid clare in pre-war days. Boats up to 700 tons can dock there. The dock has extensive coal stores. It is a neat, fairly well kept village.

Clare Castle R.C. Church is a substantial cruciform, gothic, building, very neat on the inside. Ballyea R.C. Church a neat cruciform gothic church with a good entrance gate, and new cemetary attached.

Schools and Colleges
Clare Castle National School is a large five teacher school. It is neat and well kept. Ballyea N. School is also a substantial structure, and looks tidy. Three teachers employed.
