Location and Brief Description:
Lahinch, 18 miles north-west of Ennis (capital of
Clare) and 5 miles south-east of the Cliffs of Moher, on Liscannor Bay
is a most attractive seaside resort. Famous for its 18 hole Golf Course
and long stretch of silver strand admirably suited for bathing. An attractive
feature is the great heights to which the spring and ordinary tides
rise, washing the 400 yds. promenade and those daring ones who once
too often venture to the front. Excellent hotel accommodation available.
Description of beach (? Length, sandy, shingle, safe, currents, &c.): From the eastern end of the promenade to O’Briens Bridge about 1500 yards stretches a beautiful golden beach of sand. When the tide is fully out, there is about a half-mile from the sea verge to the promenade and rocks. Bathing is safe here except during a rough sea when a current about 50 yds out drifting in an easterly and outward direction makes it dangerous for bathers. Public right of way to beach or swimming places? Public right of way Bathing, swimming and diving facilities. State if mixed bathing allowed, and quote bye-laws (if any) relating to bathing places. Include swimming pools, bathing boxes, surf-riding, &c. Bathing at any point along above stretch and also at Cregg. Diving off the rock in front of promenade when the tide suits. Mixed bathing is strictly prohibited. Ladies bathing place is from the promenade, to a point marked Ladies only, 100 yds west. From this point to the end of beach is for men. Bathing boxes at both places.
