Location and Brief Description:
The village of Mountshannon is situated on the road
from Portumna to Ennis on the noted fishing lake – Lough Derg
- 5 miles E.NE from Scarriff and 2½ miles S.W. of Whitegate.
Built on slightly rising ground, it is comprised of one street, the
houses of which are neat double and single stories. There is no square,
and at either side of the St. there is a line of trees extending the
whole length of the village giving it a pleasant appearance.
