Spanish Point

Location and Brief Description:
The small summer resort of Spanish Point is ideally situated on the west coast of Clare - 1½ miles W. of Miltown-Malbay and 3 miles N. of Quilty village. It consists of 3 hotels and a number of lodges (let monthly or for season). Spanish Point is recommendable to the seeker of a quiet, peaceful holiday.

Description of beach (? Length, sandy, shingle, safe, currents, &c.):
At Spanish Point proper, near Atlantic Hotel and Marino there is a stretch of sandy beach for 500 yards. When tide is fully out there is a strand of 150 yds. from waters edge to the rocks. To the N. of this beach is shingle. At Freagh – 1 ml. N. at Spanish Point – there is a beautiful sandy beach known as “The Silver Strand”.

There are bathing, swimming and diving facilities. Bathing, swimming and diving off the Black Rock opposite Marino Hotel Spanish Point. The left of this rock (looking out to sea) there is excellent surf-riding facilities. Bathing is not safe particularly to the left of the Black Rock where currents are frequent and strong. There are life guards always on the spot. Mixed bathing allowed. No bye-laws. No swimming pools.
