This document is a compilation of information about the Social, Cultural and Economic life of County Clare. The Clare County Development Board intends that this Profile will act as a key resource for all individuals and organisations seeking information about life in Clare and who are interested in its development and planning. Due to the depth of information available on the County, it was not possible to include all available information in the Profile. However, this document provides a summary of information on the main features of Social, Cultural and Economic life in County Clare and provides direction to the appropriate sources from which to access further information.

The Clare County Development Board intends to update this Profile in the future so as to reflect the changing and evolving environment of Clare. The Profile may also be downloaded in PDF format from the website of Clare County Development Board (www.clarecdb.ie).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team who prepared this Profile: Donal Guerin, Research Co-ordinator with the Clare County Development Board who was responsible for its overall compilation and editing and Mary Kinane and Annette O'Regan who worked as research assistants. My sincere thanks to the staff of Clare County Council who prepared the maps, Ann Breslin, GIS Officer and Eugene O'Shea, Acting Senior Executive Engineer, Environment Section.

Sincere thanks also to the members of staff at Disabled People of Clare who helped in the collation of data and in the design of graphs and tables. I also extend my gratitude to all of the organisations and individuals who contributed to this Profile with advice, information and feedback.

Councillor Seán Hillery, Chairman.
