| John Lyons is originally from Millstreet,
County Cork and in 1961 moved to Newmarket-on-Fergus, following spells
in England and Wales, where he worked as an electrician. From a musical
family, he picked up the melodeon and developed an interest in songs,
learning them from many sources, including RTE’s ‘Balladmaker’s
Saturday Night’. The majority of these recordings were made when
John stayed with us in London while on a tour we had organized for him
in 1974; the rest were recorded at various singing sessions during Willie
Clancy Summer Schools. John’s first album, ‘May Morning
Dew’, instigated by us through Topic Records, was recorded while
he was on tour in London and he has made several albums since, the most
recent being ‘Easy and Bold’ (Veteran Records, 1912), with
his brother, Tim. Jim Carroll and Pat Mackenzie |
