Bealtaine sa Chláir 2011


The launch of Clare events happening during Bealtaine 2011takes place in Glor on Tuesday, May 3rd at 2p.m. The Mayor of Clare will officially launch the month long programme of events taking place as part of Bealtaine, the national festival celebrating creativity in older age.

Clare County Arts Office has produced a brochure highlighting all the events taking place in the county during the month. This year’s theme is 'push the boat out, whatever the sea' and is taken from the poem 'At Eighty' by Edwin Morgan

The festival officially begins with a FREE afternoon tea dance in Glor on Tuesday, May 3rd, at 2p.m. with music provided by Eoin O’Neill, Quentin Cooper and Marie Griffin.

Prior to this there will be a talk by Brian Lawlor on the 'The Golden Era of Ceili Music and Dance from 1955-1970' at the DeValera Public Library, Ennis on Tuesday at noon. Brian will also be visiting Kilfinaghty Public Library, Sixmilebridge at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and the Sean Lemass Public Library, Shannon at 3p.m. on Wednesday giving the same talk.

Exhibitions taking place during the first week of the festival include the annual Embrace exhibition in Glor, an exhibition of Sacred Geometry in Scariff Library and two exhibitions in the Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon: Birds of the Shore by William Glynn and Venus by Vicky Lennie
