Clare Arts Office Bursary Scheme Recipients

The Arts Office of Clare County Council is delighted to announce the recipients of its 2010 Bursary Scheme.

The 2010 Tyrone Guthrie Bursary Award has been awarded to Emma Houlihan, from Quin. Emma is a contemporary visual artist who has travelled extensively over the last number of years in the US, India and Europe. Emma has previously been awarded the Emerging Artist Award from the National Sculpture Factory and an Arts Council Bursary. The Arts Office is pleased to support Emma at such a critical time in her career development and this bursary will enable Emma to spend two weeks at the internationally renowned Tyrone Guthrie Artists’ retreat in Co. Monaghan to reflect on her travel experiences and to create new works based on same.

The Arts Office is also supporting Eddie McCourt and Sarah Lennon to attend the Drama League of Ireland Summer School in the University of Limerick this summer. This bursary enables them to attend a full weeks’ tutorial with some of Ireland’s top names in theatre and drama.

Eddie from Cranny is a member of Kildysart Players and has been very involved with the group, organising workshios and helping out with lighting design and operation and set design and building down through the years. More recently he has turned his hand to directing, and his bursary will enable him to partake in Antoinette Duffy’s course ‘The Right Direction’ during the Summer School.

Sarah Lennon has been involved with Quin Players for over 10 years and has produced and directed numerous plays with the group. Her bursary will see her develop a new skill set in Script Writing, working with playwright Gavin Kostick during the Summer School.
