Writers in Libraries - Reading by Carlo Gebler

Clare County Arts Office is presenting the first of in a series of readings in Clare libraries by members of Aosdana. Aosdána is an affiliation of creative artists in Ireland. Carlo Gebler, member of Aosdana and former member of the Arts Council of Ireland will launch this programme of readings in the DeValera Library, Ennis on February 4th at 6p.m. and he will follow this with a reading at Killaloe Branch Library on Saturday February 5th at 12 noon
Carlo Gébler was
born in Dublin in 1954, reared in London and now lives outside Enniskillen,
in Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. He is the author of novels including The
Eleventh Summer (1985), The Cure (1994) and How to Murder a Man (1998), the
memoir Father & I (2000) and the history, The Siege of Derry (2005) as well
as plays including 10 Rounds (2002) and Dance of Death (1998) and novels for
children including Caught on a Train (2001). He was elected to Aosdana in 1990.
He is currently writer-in -residence HMP Maghaberry. He is married and has five
children.
The Arts Council established Aosdána in 1981 to honour those artists
whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Ireland, and
to encourage and assist members in devoting their energies fully to their art.
The Writers in Libraries programme has come about due to Clare County Council
wish to affirm the literary tradition and high level of literary activity within
the county. Future readings will be given by John F. Deane, Evelyn Conlon and
Jennifer Johnston.
