Deirdre to Stage First Exhibition

Clare Champion, Friday, 5th January 2001

The opening of her first exhibition at Sean Lemass Library in Shannon next week marks a major milestone in the life of an up and coming young West Clare artist. A series of fourteen abstract paintings in oil, acrylic and charcoal will be displayed by Deirdre Fitzpatrick, manager at the Leisure Centre in Shannon for almost a year. While interested in art from an early age, she opted to get a qualification in the field of leisure management.
Twenty-four years old, Deirdre received no formal training as an artist and intended to undertake a night course but a teacher advised her that this might only stymie her natural talent.  Deirdre concentrates primarily on abstract themes in her paintings and uses various materials.
The exhibition will run from Monday 8th to Friday 19th January, with the official opening being performed by Councillor Patricia McCarthy on Friday night, January 12th at 8 o’clock. A native of Doonbeg, Deirdre is daughter of Michael and Mary Fitzpatrick and is well-known in ladies football circles.
