Beagh Wells and Shanaglish Forge - An Old Kilfarboy Society Guided Walk.
Meet in the church car park, Miltown Malbay for a 2pm departure or at 2.45pm at Finnerty’s Pub, Tubber.

The Beagh Rural Development Committee has restored six Holy Wells in their parish near Gort, Co Galway. Natural springs have rock minerals leached into them which gives the water curative powers. The druids utilised these health benefits and when Christianity took over the practice continued and many became centres of Christian devotion. This guided tour will include some of the wells and also the recently restored Loughnane’s Forge in Shanaglish Village. For centuries the local forge provided an essential service to local farmers and each locality had its own blacksmith to shoe horses, make gates and iron bands for the timber wheels of horse cars and generally service and repair agricultural machinery. The forge was a centre of activity in the locality before the advent of the tractor and electric welding. The guide will be Tony Diviney. Meet in the church car park, Miltown Malbay for a 2 pm departure or at 2.45 at Finnerty’s Pub, Tubber – less than a mile on side road north of Tubber village church.

18th – 30th June 2018
When Craftsmen Upped Their Game by visual artist John J McCormack
Clare Museum, Ennis

Clare Arts Office presents "When Craftsmen Upped Their Game" an exhibition by artist John McCormack that explores the interesting theme of church architecture and the historical role of the church acting as ‘’patron’’ to artists and craftsmen/women throughout the ages. Local Clare artist John McCormack uses sketching as a form in which to present his ideas. His interest in church architecture has been a gradual process, initiated more by luck then judgement. Says McCormack ‘’ sketching in a busy spot can be impractical, often attracting unwanted attention. A church can provide shelter, seating and peace, I soon realised it can supply inspiration’’. John has studied visual art throughout his life and has exhibited in Stephens Green, Dublin and in the Clare Museum and Ennistymon. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend. The exhibition runs for two weeks from June 18th – 30th.
