Music at the 2006 Festival

THE GYPSY JAZZ QUARTET

This talented Galway based quartet play café jazz of 1930's Paris, based on the music of Django Reinhardt, and Stephane Grappelli. Frank Kilkelly, (who has played with many of the top names including Café Orchestra, Sharon Shannon and Mairtin O'Connor), is joined by Paul O'Driscoll grooving on double bass, well known for his work in traditional music (Deiseal, Josephine Marsh), Ivor Ottley on fiddle (fresh from the vibrant English acoustic scene) and Damien Gilligan (The Hot Club, Dublin) lays down the rhythm on acoustic guitar. The music is uptempo, lively and uplifting, with melancholy interludes.

An opportunity to work with Archie Simpson (Founder of The Lismorahaun Singers) with singer Kate Daly in a workshop based on the teachings of Eduado Asquez. There will be an illuminating talk on his history and approach, demonstrations and a participatory workshop.

THE BOYS OF THE LOUGH

One of the first traditional super groups combining the best of Irish, Scottish, Northumbrian traditions, the Boys of the Lough occupy a unique position of respect in traditional music Their tight ensemble playing has impeccable technique and sensitivity. They have completed over fifty tours of the USA and recently celebrated their 30th anniversary as a band. Featuring Dave Richardson, Brenndán Begley, Cathal McConnell, Kevin Henderson, Malcolm Stitt and Jenna Reid.

PIRATECHNICS

Fire / Sound / Light Performance
Piratechnics is the first 'youth fire group' in Ireland who have created a performance which promises to be spectacular; a celebration of fire with a number of displays using fireworks, light and sound. This is the first show of its kind to come to Mountshannon, and is the result of collaborative work between young adults, fire brigade members, local artists and the Irish Fireworks Co. Black Powder Monkeys. 'Fire Music' that has been created by children from local national schools during workshops facilitated by Diane Daly (ICO), will open the event. Perfect for all the family.

Wine Reception followed by a Contemporary/ Classical Concert based on Traditional Istrian (Croatian) music, including Romantic and Traditional Irish pieces performed by visitors from Croatia; Adriana Von Runic on Flute (an original founder of the festival), and Aleksandra Santin, piano (The Konservatorium Pola).
