Launch of TRADITIONAL GROUP RESIDENCY & SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE
March 3rd, 2006, Glor Irish Music Centre, Ennis, Co.Clare 8 p.m.

Friday, March 3rd hosts the launch of two important Clare events. The Traditional Group Residency and Seachtain na Gaeilge will both be officially launched at a special concert in Glór Irish Music Centre on March 3rd at 8pm.

The Traditional Group Residency is a new pilot project created by the Arts Office of the Clare County Council and supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. The members of the group are Sean Tyrrell, Siobhan Peoples, Christy Barry and Paul Dooley. These are all well-known Clare (and Clare based) musicians and experts in their respective artistic areas. The residency lasts until December 2006 and offers them an opportunity to work together for various high profile performances, to learn from each other and to learn from the experience. The residency aims to create an annual high profile opportunity for traditional artists (musicians, singers, dancers, storytellers) in Clare with mentoring opportunities provided. After the initial pilot phase of 2006, an open competitive selection process will be in operation whereby applications will be invited from the entire traditional arts community of Clare. New applications will be sought late 2006.

To launch the Seachtain na Gaeilge 2006 programme of events, Oifig na Gaeilge and the Clare County Arts Office (of Clare County Council) have organised this concert in Glór Irish Music Centre on March 3rd next. The first act is comprised of the winners of the widely advertised “Composition Competition”, which showcases creative and talented minds from around the county. Such was the interest in the competition that the closing date was extended to February 22nd . The second act will feature the new Traditional Group Residency of the Clare Arts Office.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2006 will take place between March 4th and 17th of this year. Every year hundreds throughout the county partake in various events, and 2006 is no exception. A programme of events, which include tours of Clare Museum for primary schools, given by Tomás MacConmara, scéalaíocht in all branch libraries, organised by the Library service, and lectures on various topics have been organised. Further details are available from the Seachtain na Gaeilge website www.snag.ie the Clare County Council website www.clarecoco.ie or from Oifig na Gaeilge on 065-6846222.

Tickets for this spectacular concert on March 3rd can be booked at the Glór box office on 065-6843103. It promises to be a night of high quality entertainment, a night, not to be missed!
