SO YOU WANT TO BE A WRITER!

The Western Writers’ Centre – Ionad Scríbhneoirí Chaitlín Maude– in collaboration with Co. Clare Arts Office, will host an exciting one day workshop on writing and publishing on Saturday, June 17th , at Glór Centre, Ennis.

The workshop, designed for writers at any stage of their development and for those who simply wish to write, will be given by eminent novelist June Considine and writer and broadcaster Patricia Hickey. Places will be limited.

June Considine is a well-known author of twelve books for young people. Her publications include "The Luvenders Trilogy", "The Beachwood Series", "View from a Blind Bridge" and the "Glass Triangle". Her short stories have been included in a number of teenage anthologies and on RTE’s Fiction 15 series. Her adult novels include the best selling "When The Bough Breaks" and "Deceptions", and her short stories have appeared in "The New Hennessy Book of Irish Fiction" and "Moments". She has also worked as a journalist and has featured on "Sunday Miscellany".

Patricia Hickey was born in Dublin and is a sociology graduate of Trinity College, Dublin. She has broadcast short stories on radio and has recently been a guest reviewer on Book Bound on Anna Livia fm. One of her short stories was included in the "Irish Anthology of Short Stories 2000", edited by David Marcus. Her novel, "Green Poppies" was published in 2004 by Blackstaff Press and she is presently working on her next novel "Prussian Blue".

“We are delighted to have June and Patricia work with us,” said the Centre’s Manager, Fred Johnston, who worked with Clare Arts Officer Siobhán Mulcahy last year on the successful Aosdána project to bring Aosdána writers to varies venues in Co. Clare. “And to promote our remit as a writers’ centre for all of the Western region. These are accomplished practitioners of the writers’ trade and it is a boon to have them come and discuss the business of writing.”

Fees for the one day workshop are €50 and €35 (unwaged).
