The 18th Ennis IMRO Composition Summer School takes place in Coláiste Muire from 10th-22nd July and offers a unique opportunity to explore the possibilities of composing contemporary opera. Students will create an operatic scene, devising their own libretto from a selected text, composing for two voices and accompanist and directing its performance and recording. Two of this year's course directors, Nicola LeFanu and James Wilson, are established opera composers with a large number of stage and television works to their credit and students will be able to work closely with them and with the guest performers and producer. The course will take the form of group lectures, workshops and individual tutorials in which student compositions will be presented and discussed. The Summer School also welcomes observers who will be able to attend all lectures and workshops. Martin O'Leary, the third course director, will be available to discuss any compositions in progress.
