National Heritage Week

European Heritage Day is a Council of Europe initiative in which over 40 countries participate. Its main aim is to make people aware of the built and natural heritage, thereby encouraging its conservation and preservation. In Ireland the programme is co-ordinated by Dúchas.

Heritage Week 2000 will commence on September 3rd and continue through until September 10th. Events organised for Heritage Week should encourage people to become familiar with their local heritage while raising awareness of our shared European heritage.

There are all kinds of ways to take part in Heritage Week 2000. Try to plan events which celebrate the role of Ireland’s heritage within Europ. Dúchas will provide all organisers with posters and programmes with which to promote your activities.
