The North Clare Writers Workshop, founded in the late 1980s by Anthony Edwards, who was then librarian in Ennistymon Library, met weekly for many years in the library, and published a number of anthologies, including

Kate Thompson, an active member of the workshop for many years won the Guardian Fiction Prize for Children in 2005 for her novel The New Policeman.
