Celebrating Gaeilge in de Valera libraryClare Champion 18 March 2005To
celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge 2005, Clare County Library launched an
Irish Language Book Promotion entitled Blúirín Gaeilge for
adults and children at the de Valera Library in Ennis last week.
The promotion was launched by celebrated Irish author, Ré Ó Laighléis following a two hour workshop based on his novel Gafa which is on this year’s Leaving Certificate syllabus. Students from Colaiste Muire and Gaelcholaiste an Chláir attended. Ré also visited Kilrush, Shannon, Killaloe and Ennistymon libraries during Seachtain na Gaeilge meeting with senior classes from secondary schools in all five regions. Blúirín Gaeilge features books such as An tOileánach and Allagar na hInise for adults, considered to be classics of the Irish language. The children’s books selected for this promotion to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge is representative of the ever-growing range available for all ages from tots to teens. A leaflet accompanying the books provides a short review of each the selected titles. “Through the promotion of this collection, Clare County Library hopes to point adults and children in the direction of authors and titles that are indicative of books available in our native language for readers of all ages”, said County Librarian Noel Crowley. The
promotion will be located in Shannon Public Library for a period of three
months and from there it will tour to all other branch libraries throughout
the county. |
