The Joy of Reading for Scariff Children

Someone who knew what they were talking about once said that a child who is given the gift of a love of reading will never be lonely. To celebrate just how important books and reading are for children, Scariff Library has lined up a great series of events for the national Children's Book Festival 2008.
The week kicks off in the new Library tomorrow, Wednesday, October 1 at 1:30pm with the Sean Ó Laoghaire Puppet Theatre presenting It's My Planet Too, a delightful show suitable for ages nine to twelve set in Nature's Garden which is threatened by the villain Pollution.
Jamie Durrant of Birdwatch Ireland will provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of birds and give tips on how to birdwatch on Friday, October 3 at 3:30pm.
Artist Nicola Henley will be on hand on Thursday, October 9 at 3:30pm to help kids aged eight to twelve years make a piece of hand rolled, colourfully decorated felt to take home. Booking is required for this event.
Best selling children's author Karen McCombie will visit the Library on Tuesday, October 14 at 11:30am to talk to her eleven to thirteen year old fans.
Eight to twelve year olds can make their own 3D Halloween collage to bring home with artist Alan Shoosmith on Tuesday, October 21 at 10:30am. Booking is a must for this event.
Prepare to be transported to places near and far in an interactive storytelling session for ages seven to nine with storyteller Joe Brennan on Wednesday, October 22 at 11:00am.
Introducting kids aged eight to twelve years to the wild mammal species fround in Ireland, The Super Furry Animals Roadshow rolls into Scariff Public Library on Thursday, October 23 for two shows at 10:00am and 11:30am.
The Festival ends with a Halloween Fancy Dress Party on Thursday, October 30 at 3:30pm for all youngsters twelve and under with prizes for the best costume.
