The Clare Library Service has turned over a new leaf to spread the benefits of the Information Age throughout the county. This new initiative received a timely boost on Monday last when Environment Minister, Noel Dempsey, announced a £25,000 grant to help the library progress even further with this innovative project.
For some years, the library has been leading the way to help people benefit from new technology. Ennis Library has developed on-line access to its total collection of material and has developed an informative website on the Internet. In the near future, a catalogue and local history databases will be accessible via the Internet. The development of the Community Information Module will be another project which will bring great benefits to the community.
All these developments were lauded by Minister Dempsey when he announced this substantial grant at the opening of the new Sixmilebridge Wastewater Treatment Works last Monday. "These projects fit well with the recommendations in the Branching Out Report which I launched last year on the use of Information and Communications Technologies to provide new and better services to the local and to the wider community", he said.
