World Book Day
Clare Champion, Friday, 23rd February 2007
World Book Day takes place on Thursday, March 1 and is an annual celebration of books and reading. To mark this, a World Book Day readathon is taking place in Newmarket Library, as in other branch Libraries on the day. The importance of reading is highlighted through the readathon, while children and the general public can also donate to a worthy cause - Book Aid International. This is an organisation that provides people in countries like sub-Saharan Africa and Palestine with access to reading materials that they would otherwise not have access to. A donation to the organisation can be made on the day.
Bookings for the readathon by teachers or parents can be made by telephoning 061-368411 or by visiting the Library. A storytelling session has also been arranged to take place in the Library on World book Day at 3.30pm for three to six year olds.
