Children’s Movie Screening for Feile Brian Ború – “The Secret of Kells”
Killaloe Public Library at 3pm

In the remote Irish woods, Cellach prepares a fortress for an impending attack by a Viking war party. Unbeknown to Cellach, his young nephew Brendan - who has no taste for battle - works secretly as an apprentice in the scriptorium of the local monastery, learning the ancient art of calligraphy. As the Vikings approach, revered illuminator Aidan arrives at the monastery and recruits Brendan to complete a series of dangerous, magical tasks. Running time 75 minutes. Rated PG – Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission free and all are welcome. Juice and popcorn provided.

British filmmaker John Irvin directs the musical comedy drama The Boys and Girl From County Clare. Set in the late '60s, the story involves a pair of rival brothers reuniting for the All-Ireland Traditional Music Competition in County Clare, Ireland. Starring Colm Meaney, Bernard Hill, Andrea Corr, Shaun Evans and Charlotte Bradley.
Running time 90 minutes. Rated 15A. Admission free and all are welcome. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided.

A Series of Creative Writing Workshops for Writers
Scariff Public Library from 11am - 1 pm

Facilitated by Helen Blackhurst
These four writing workshops will explore notions of happiness in fiction and memoir writing through the lens of character, plot, point of view, dialogue and endings. Using a range of creative writing techniques, participants will have the opportunity to generate new material for their own work and add to a collective response. Children are invited to take part in an interactive flower workshop hosted by Cora. Activities will include the picking and naming of flowers and foliage and putting them together to create a table centre for each child to take home. This is a free event and all materials will be supplied.

The classic David Walliams tale is brought to life in this BBC feature length drama. Former World War II flying ace Grandpa is unwell and has been forced to live in Twilight Towers, run by the despicable Miss Dandy. With the help of his grandson Jack, he plots a daring escape, which may give him one last chance to take to the sky in his beloved Spitfire. Running time 72 minutes. Veronica’s presentation will involve speaking with parents and children and advising them on what is involved in setting up a Coder Dojo. Veronica runs her own Coder Dojo and is very anxious that other parents and guardians might come on-board to support and mentor their own children.

Scariff Library Film Club: The Hundred Foot Journey

Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is an extraordinarily talented and largely self-taught culinary novice. When he and his family are displaced from their native India and settle in a quaint French village, they decide to open an Indian eatery. However, Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), the proprietress of an acclaimed restaurant just 100 feet away, strongly objects. War erupts between the two establishments, until Mallory recognizes Kadam's impressive epicurean gifts and takes him under her wing. Cert PG. Tea and coffee provided.
