Prehistoric Forts and Dolmens in North Clare

The Clare Local Studies Project team (using FÁS training schemes to help people produce useful things while developing their skills) goes from strength to strength.  Here they take nine articles published between 1896 and 1915 in The Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland (incidentally marking the sesquicentenary of the RSAI's foundation), and reset them complete with Westropp's marvellous drawings and plans (and even some photos) to make a most satisfactory detailed Gazeteer of ancient remains in and around the Burren, including cairns, huts, cists and souterrains.  The typesetting is scrupulous and intelligent, the reproduction good, the design from jacket and endpapers to every last detail very satisfactory - and of course the achievement in opening the treasures in cobwebbed journals to an eager public tremendous.  And if sites and constructs have suffered damage in the century since Westropp recorded them, that record is all the more valuable.
