Folklore of Clare
by Thomas Johnson Westropp
Books Ireland, Feb 2001
These articles first appeared in the transactions of
the Folk-Lore Society between 1910 and 1913. They are here reset, with
their original few illustrations reproduced, to make a cohesive and fascinating
book on folktales and myths up to the early eighteenth century as well
as lore, encompassing banshees, fairy forts, ghosts, haunted houses, supernatural
animals, spectral lands and cities, charms, magic rites, holy wells, and
superstitions. Westropp lived 1860-1922, always a tireless
collector of such material. CLASP, as we always note, know how to make
a book look like a book.
